Are women-only buses discriminatory?

(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2016-05-06 10:25

Editor's note: A women-only bus service in Zhengzhou, the capital of Central China's Henan province, has sparked a heated discussion online. The local bus company says it will protect women from being harassed when wearing less clothing in summer, and also help breastfeeding mothers feel comfortable. Some local men call the move discriminatory and humiliating. Forum readers share their opinions.

A women's only bus is just a band-aid, a poor one at that, and not a solution. it side-steps the real problem. Women have got to know that they need to speak up and be vocal if they want that to stop... they are victims of a crime after all. The only way to stop it is by punishing the perpetrator to the full extent of the law. The local law and judicial systems needs to take it seriously too.

By the way, men aren't the only ones that push their way on to buses (trains, subways, elevators, etc.) ... women and children do it as well. I've resorted to waiting as everyone is done pushing their way on before boarding. It's amazing the complete lack of common sense, forget courtesy.
