Li Yong, former general manager of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, has been expelled from the Party for serious violations of Party disciplines and laws, announced the country's top anti-graft watchdogs on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervisory Commission, his case and involved assets have been transferred to the procuratorial organs for review and prosecution.

The statement said that Li resisted scrutiny from Party organizations, frequently accepted banquets and golf outings arranged by suppliers, failed to truthfully explain issues during inquiries and improperly promoted and transferred officials.

Additionally, he accepted gifts and money, engaged in activities that could compromise the impartial execution of official duties, maintained close ties with unscrupulous businessmen, and traded power for money.

Li exploited his power to assist others in China and accept money overseas. He also misused his position for personal gain in business agency, product sales, career advancement, and subsequently accepted substantial bribes.

Li, 61, started working at China National Offshore Oil Corporation in 1984. From March 2017 to September 2020, he served as the deputy general manager of Sinopec Group. Subsequently, he took the roles of vice-chairman and general manager of China National Offshore Oil Corporation.

He retired in December 2023 and was placed under investigation three months later.
