LONDON - Chelsea midfielder Ramires is close to moving to Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning for a fee of around 25 million pounds.
Ramires, who joined Chelsea with 18 million pounds in 2010, just signed a new four-year deal in October.
The 28-year-old Brazil international will become the most expensive player in Chinese football history if he completes the move.
He would be coached by former Chelsea midfielder Dan Petrescu of Romania, who has been in charge of Jiangsu since last July.
Ramires played 242 matches for Chelsea and scored 37 goals. But he has only started seven Premier League games in a campaign in which the Blues have struggled.
He also played 52 games for Brazil after making his international debut in 2009.
With the growing passion for soccer in China, it's not surprising that attendance at the country's professional matches is climbing.
The spending power of the Chinese Super League makes it a major player in football's transfer market.
