A soccer association was established on Friday in Shunde, traditionally known for its robust economy since the 1980s, aiming to better develop professional and amateur soccer.
The launching ceremony of the association on Friday evening was attended by some renowned insiders, including former national team coaches Qi Wusheng and Sun Yongshun, former national team player Peng Weiguo and former women's soccer team captain Wei Haiying.
A professional club will soon be established in Shunde, in the heart of the prosperous Pearl River Delta, to take part in the county's professional leagues.
"A series of soccer events will be promoted among local communities and schools, to help expand the soccer-playing population," said Luo Yuanguang, deputy director of the Shunde cultural and sports authority.
