NEW YORK, July 23 - New Jersey Nets head coach Lawrence Frank has signed a multi-year contract extension, Nets President Rod Thorn announced on Monday.

Terms of the contract were not revealed.

Frank has steered the team into the playoffs in each of his four seasons with the club, posting a 157-129 record but has not taken the Nets beyond the second round of the playoffs.

Last season the Nets finished 41-41 and lost in the second round of the playoffs to eventual Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers. He has an 18-20 record in the postseason.

"Lawrence has done an outstanding job," Thorn said in a statement.

Frank will be going into the next season with his core talent intact after the club re-signed All-Star Vince Carter earlier this off-season to return with fellow guard Jason Kidd and forward Richard Jefferson.

Frank became interim head coach of the New Jersey Nets in January 2004, succeeding Byron Scott, after serving as an assistant coach with the team since the 2000-01 season.

He won his first 13 games in charge of the Nets for the best start ever for an NBA coach.

Before joining the Nets, Frank was an assistant with the NBA Vancouver Grizzlies, and at the University of Tennessee and Marquette University.
