The city of Xi’an, Shaanxi province, arranged an activity to promote the traditional customs of the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival among pupils on June 18, according to xinhuanet.com.
Experts from Xi’an Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center were invited to give a detailed introduction of items used on the festival, such as sachet with special spice inside which was originally used to resist insects and colorful strings which are believed can help children remain healthy. The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu, is celebrated annually on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. It falls on June 20 this year.
