Smoother air transport in NE China for Dragon Boat Festival

2015-06-24

Airports in Jilin province saw a growth in the number of flights, tourists, and cargo during this year's Dragon Boat (Duanwu) Festival, June 20 – 22, according to the Jilin Airports Holdings Co, which reports 636 flights for a growth of 26.44 percent, from the same period last year.

They carried 78,061 passengers, for a 34.58-percent increase, and 522 tons of cargo, up 2.15 percent, with the city of Changchun, the provincial capital, still holding its place as the major player in aviation.

The passengers gave their main reason for the travel as making a short trip or to visit relatives, with most of them carrying festival gifts such as Zongzi, a kind of rice pudding, putting a bit of pressure on airport security checks. To make sure that things went smoothly, Jilin opened more security checkpoints and recruited volunteer groups to help with the passenger flow. It also increased the number of self-service machines for those without luggage.

There was also help from the public security bureau, power and energy department, and airport offices so that Jilin's air traffic was fairly efficient, and got some applause from passengers.
