A wedding ceremony in the style of the Han Dynasty was held in the Wenmiao Temple in Dujiangyan, Sichuan province on Tuesday.

The bride and bridegroom wore hanfu, or traditional dress of the Han Chinese people, and got married to drum music of the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), attracting many tourists.

A Han marriage, also known as a Marriage of the Zhou Form, from the Zhou Dynasty (c. 1046–256 BC), includes several traditional rites, such as washing hands in flowing water, eating one piece of meat, and drinking Chinese wine from a ceremonial cup.

The ceremony is viewed as quintessential of Chinese culture.

Cao Lingxiu, the bride, said the tradition is sacred and sweet.

The Wenmiao Temple, also known as the Confucius Temple, is famous for its ancient irrigation system, which was built in 256 BC.

The temple offers traditional Chinese studies classes and seeks to restore six of China's classical art forms — archery, ritual, music, horseback riding, calligraphy and mathematics.
