CITIC is among the first companies to expand internationally

?China CITIC Group Co., Ltd. was founded in 1979 by Mr. Rong Yiren as the Chinese Leader Deng Xiaoping provided his unwavering support. CITIC is among the first companies to expand internationally having designed more than 2000 plants altogether. It has proven its worth being a pioneer for economic reforms in China charting an important innovative development path.?

The following subsections will highlight projects under CITIC that cater different areas and are spread in various regions internationally.

Asia’s 1st Largescale underground MBR based WWTP

The Guangzhou Jingxi Municipal Wasterwater Treatment Plant is one of its kind and considered Asia’s first largescale underground MBR based WWTP. Owing to its superior performance and advanced MBR and ultrafiltration membrane technology, the MBR membrane has gained strong popularity among customers. It has a capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per day and was commissioned in 2009.?

The Huaifang Water Reclamation Plant in Beijing is one of China’s largest and most advanced wastewater treatment facilities, with a capacity to treat approximately 600,000 cubic meters per day. Commissioned in 2018, it uses cutting-edge filtration and biological treatment processes to recycle wastewater for non-potable uses, such as landscaping, industrial cooling, and replenishing rivers, supporting Beijing’s water sustainability goals.

Sea Water Treatment

Located in Tianjin, Xianda Tianjin Seawater Desalination plant was commissioned in 2024 and is a large-scale facility that converts seawater into fresh water, supporting industrial and municipal needs in the Tianjin area.

The Taichung Thermal Power Mobile Emergency Unit in Taiwan was commissioned in 2021 and has a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters per day. It provides rapid-response power solutions during outages or emergencies. It utilizes mobile power generation units to ensure a stable electricity supply, supporting critical infrastructure and minimizing disruptions.

Industry Water Reuse

The Pesquería Steel Plant Seawater Desalination facility in Mexico provides fresh water for steel production by converting seawater through advanced desalination technology. This sustainable solution supports the plant’s operations while reducing reliance on local freshwater resources. The facility in Mexico has a capacity of approximately 30,000 cubic meters per day.

The Karazhanbas Oil Produced Water Reclamation facility treats and reclaims water produced during oil extraction, converting it into reusable water for industrial use, thereby minimizing environmental impact. With a capacity of about 17,000 cubic meters per day, it was commissioned in 2024 to support sustainable water management in Kazakhstan’s oil sector.

It is evident that CITIC’s work underscores its role as a major force in global infrastructure, finance, and industrial innovation, supporting sustainable development and China’s global partnerships. Moreover, CITIC Group has been instrumental in implementing Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology across various water treatment projects, aimed at enhancing water quality and sustainability. It is also behind landmark infrastructure projects, such as Beijing’s CITIC Tower and numerous Belt and Road Initiative ventures, including ports and highways across Asia and Africa.
