China to host global forum on sustainable transport
China will host the Global Sustainable Transport Forum 2024 from Sept 25 to 26 in Beijing, according to the Ministry of Transport, the organizer of the summit, on Wednesday.
The summit, themed "Sustainable Transport: Connecting the World through Logistics", will feature a comprehensive agenda including an opening ceremony, plenary sessions, a ministerial forum, and various thematic discussions.
Key topics at the forum will include: global partnerships — establishing international collaborations for sustainable transport; connectivity — enhancing government governance and emergency response cooperation to build resilient global logistics supply chains; inclusive development — creating fair and sustainable rural transport systems to ensure safe and accessible travel for all; innovation — utilizing artificial intelligence to drive advancements in transportation and support the growth of the low-altitude economy; and ecological priority — promoting new energy sources and accelerating the green and low-carbon transformation of global transport.
The forum will also release a series of practical outcomes, including initiatives aligned with the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and a report on China's progress in sustainable transport, the China Sustainable Transport Development Report (2023).
The event will feature speeches from international dignitaries, transport ministers, heads of international organizations, and foreign diplomats based in China. It aims to provide a high-level platform for advancing global transport cooperation and fostering a transportation system that is safe, efficient, green, economical, inclusive, and resilient.
In addition, the forum will showcase China's innovations in sustainable transport through technical tours highlighting advancements in autonomous driving, smart logistics, rural and urban transport, international airports, rail transit, and automated ports.
The Global Sustainable Transport Forum 2023 was also held in Beijing in September last year.
