Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated on Thursday that China commends the efforts made by different factions in Palestine in reaching the Beijing Declaration and will collaborate with relevant parties to make relentless efforts for the lasting peace and security in the Middle East.

Lin made the remarks in response to a question about whether the killing of Hamas leader would impact China's peace efforts in the region or affect a reconciliation agreement recently signed in Beijing.

"China always supports the internal reconciliation of Palestine and believes that it is a crucial step toward resolving the Palestinian question and realizing peace and stability in the Middle East," Lin said.

Noting that China is deeply concerned that the assassination may plunge the region into further turmoil, Lin stressed the necessity of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible.

"There should be no more escalation of conflict and confrontation," he emphasized.

The spokesman added that the more severe the Middle East situation is, the more imperative it is for the international community to ease tensions and deescalate the conflict.

"China is always committed to safeguarding the peace and stability in the Middle East region and is opposed to external interference. We stand ready to work with relevant parties to work relentlessly for the lasting peace and security in the region," Lin said.
