Shanghai municipal government and Donghua University donated digital audio-visual classroom facilities to Moi University Coast campus in Kenya's coastal city of Mombasa on Monday.

Dubbed the "Shanghai Love Classroom", the $45,805 donation included cutting-edge equipment to enhance digital and virtual learning at the university.

Isaac Kosgey, the vice-chancellor of Moi University, thanked the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and Donghua University for the donation and their commitment in advancing education and fostering international collaboration.

He said the "Shanghai Love Classroom" initiative represents a pivotal advancement for Moi University, adding that the smart classrooms symbolize a gateway to a new era of learning.

"By integrating cutting-edge technology with our existing curriculum, we are enhancing the educational experience for our students, providing them with unparalleled access to global resources and innovative teaching methodologies," he said.

He said the project will significantly bolster the university's capacity to deliver high-quality education, promote interactive learning, and better prepare students for the modern world challenges.

Shang Yuying, deputy secretary general of the Shanghai municipal government, said the Confucius Institute opened by Donghua University at Moi University is the first Confucius Institute in the world featuring textiles and clothing.

Over the years, she said it has made many contributions to the training of textile professionals in Kenya.

"Today, I am very happy to see that with the support of the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation, Donghua University has donated audio-visual classroom facilities to Moi University," she said.

"I believe that it will further enhance the school's information education level and further consolidate the basis for cooperation between the two parties."

Chen Ge, vice-president of Donghua University, said the event marks a significant milestone in the collaborations between Donghua University and Moi University.

"Today we embark on a new chapter in our cooperation through introduction of smart classrooms. This initiative is a testimony to our commitment to embracing the future of education through digital innovation," Chen said.
