The California-Hainan High-Level Climate Dialogue took place in Sacramento, the state capital of California in the United States, on Tuesday, aiming to further foster collaboration between California and South China's Hainan province in addressing climate challenges.

Both sides have been engaged in friendly discussions and exchanges of personnel since the Hainan provincial government and the government of California signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in August. The MOU outlined a few key areas of cooperation, including climate action, air quality, clean transportation, clean energy, clean technologies and nature-based climate solutions.

Bringing the dialogue to fruition marks a significant step in translating the MOU into concrete action, representatives said.

Members of the Hainan government delegation and managerial staff of the Bank of China's North America branch who attended the event will spend 10 days engaged in activities including knowledge exchanges, site visits and in-depth discussions. The program showcases pioneering efforts to enhance understanding and practices related to climate change, green finance and investment by administrative personnel in government and high-level management personnel in banking.

The launch of the dialogue is expected to further bilateral cooperation and establish a solid foundation for deepening cooperation across various sectors, including climate change, green and low-carbon development, new energy vehicles, education and youth exchanges.

The dialogue brought together representatives of Hainan and California in Haikou in March. It facilitated in-depth discussions on crucial topics, including climate change and environmental protection, green transportation, new energy vehicles and zero-emission vehicles.
