Three-time Olympic champion Shaun White of the United States broke down in tears after his final run on Friday in his fifth and last Olympics in which he missed out on the podium.
Legend snowboarder White finished in fourth place with 85.00 points at his Beijing 2022 campaign. The ending may not have been perfect, but it was the 35-year-old who received the loudest applause of the day.
"I'm so thankful for my career, thankful to China for having us," White told reporters after the competition.
"A lot of emotions are hitting me right now, the cheering from the crowd, some kind words from my fellow competitors, I'm so happy," he said tearfully.
"Snowboarding, thank you. It's been the love of my life," White added.
