Sharapova reaches quarterfinals, Zhang Shuai out
SHENZHEN - Maria Sharapova came from a set down to overcame Alison Riske 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 here on Tuesday, advancing to the quarterfinals of WTA Shenzhen Open.
Riske built a 6-3, 2-1 lead, but the five-time Grand Slam champion rallied to win five of the last six games, before winning the last four games of the match in two hours and 22 minutes.
"I'm just glad that I came back, she played a really great match and as I said to her at the net, I thought it was a great quality match. In the end, I won it so I have another opportunity to keep going." Sharapova said.
No. 8 seed Timea Babos from Hungary eased past Magda Linette from Poland, 6-2, 6-1.
Third-seeded Zhang Shuai was edged out by Zarina Diyas from Kazakhstan after 2 hours and 22 minutes on court.
