The world's largest electronics contractor Foxconn Technology Group plans to sell 14 million Sharp televisions this year, after acquiring Japanese electronics giant Sharp.

"Sharp, as a century-old company, has an advantage in technology and brand, while Foxconn, as a representative of China's manufacturing industry, possesses cutting-edge technologies and advanced management mechanism. China is an important market for Sharp's global layout," Jacob Chen, vice president of Foxconn, said.

Chen said Foxconn is rebuilding Sharp, making the Japanese consumer electronics brand become much younger and closer to Chinese customers, adding they will strengthen the after-sale service team to meet customer's requirements.

Foxconn launched new high-end 60-inch television products, Aquos S60 and S60U on Tuesday, priced at 13,999 yuan ($2060) and 14,999 yuan respectively.

As one of the biggest employers in China, Foxconn operates factories that manufacture most Apple iPhones.

Last year, Foxconn announced its plans to acquire Sharp to rejuvenate Sharp's television business and increase its production of LCD panels, with an aim to expand its product portfolio.

Sakai Display Products, a jointly managed company of Foxconn and Sharp, began building a new plant in Guangzhou in March, investing 61 billion yuan for the first stage. The plant will be a major supplier for Sharp.
